We are in days similar to the days of king Ahaz in Judah. He and the people feared because of the threats of King Peka of Israel and Rezin, king of Syria. The LORD sent the prophet Isaiah to Ahaz, telling him not to fear; that the plans that these two had would not stand. Though they planned to remove Ahaz and replace him with a king they chose (the son of Tabeal), they would not succeed.
Later, the LORD laid out a plan that would impact ALL of the people who were left in the land—including king Ahaz himself and his family. The plan is as follows . . .
King of Assyria to remove the threats - GOD is removing the various threats—foreign and domestic from our culture to cleanse our land.
Sign of the virgin: Emmanuel eating curds & honey - Curds are sour and honey is sweet. The LORD desires for us to choose the good (honey) and refuse the evil (curds), during these trying days.
Flies from Egypt and bees from Assyria occupy the desolate spaces - There are foreign invaders that have become pests in our land but, they also offer us something sweet—an opportunity to repent and change.
Every man with a family having a cow and 2 sheep - We are experiencing substantial shifts to our economy, our incomes, what we can buy and what we can eat. Cows and sheep produce milk. This material and financial downturn is the milk GOD is feeding us with to turn us back to HIM. Why? Because, when we prosper, we tend to forget GOD. Lack is the avenue to seek GOD again.
Thorns & briers multiply in the land - Clashes between various groups and nationalities, unrest among world leaders and nations, financial crisis, health crisis and food crisis is enough to creat a prickly situation.
Men come to desolate places to hunt - More and more people are finding it necessary to grow their own food and store away supplies long term. A large portion of our society are loosing or have lost confidence in our banks.
Wild oxen & cattle replace farming - What man couldn’t do and in many cases refused to do—GOD has prepared and sent mighty men among us—to tread out everything that has made us a desolate people.
GOD is removing the threats. What HE wants in return from us is to sincerely choose HIM again. In the midst of all the negative things we’re experiencing, HE wants us to turn our hearts and minds back to the ONLY one who can save and prosper us again.
